Personal Support Worker
Personal Support Worker Diploma Program (NACC Accredited) graduates are required to function in the traditional caretaker role at institutions providing health care, and community agencies which provide health care services. In order to provide safe, effective, and sensitive skills in care giving and community work, it is very important that students adopt a compassionate and human approach to care. Sensitivity to the individual and their rights is central to the theme of instruction and training of the Personal Support Worker. Academy of Learning graduates understand their own strengths and limitations, and can interact and communicate effectively with clients, families, and Health Care team members.Personal support workers form the backbone of community and facility services. The attitude, approach and abilities of workers are critical to the well-being, comfort, safety, and health of the people they support.
Students will learn how to respond to the emotional and physical needs of clients. Basic skills include promoting physical and mental activation, observing and communicating with clients, handling specialized equipment and providing personal and physical care.Upon passing the NACC exam students are awarded their credential. A NACC Certificate and a PIN is also provided upon successfully passing the NACC exam along with an Academy of Learning Diploma.
